  • WHAT WE DO

Savannah Rose Rescue is a registered Community-Based Organisation (CBO) working in Bukoyo Village, Bulamagi Sub-county, Iganga District, Eastern Uganda.

Our commitment is to support vulnerable children, families, and communities facing challenges such as poverty, limited access to water, food insecurity, and lack of safe opportunities for children to grow and thrive.

We do this through child care and weekly reflections, community water projects, sustainable farming and food forests, and practical outreach and support. Our work is rooted in the values of love, service, spiritual growth, and responsible care for people and the earth, inspired by the teachings of The Urantia Book.We focus on vulnerable rural communities because we believe meaningful change begins where basic needs and opportunities are most limited. Our commitment is long-term—working alongside communities today while building practical foundations for a more secure and sustainable future

  • OUR STORY

From a Small Village Group to a Growing Community-Based Organisation

Savannah Rose Rescue began in 2017 as a small group of people who came together with a simple desire: to respond to the struggles we saw around us and bring hope to vulnerable people in our community.

At the time, we had very little limited resources, no large facilities, and no major funding. What we had was compassion, faith, determination, and a willingness to serve. We started by reaching out to children and families facing difficult circumstances, listening to their needs and offering whatever practical support we could.

That same year, a meaningful connection changed the direction of our journey. Manyi John met Carlee Goodwin from Saskatchewan, Canada, who became more than a supporter . Carlee became a family supporter, helping with essential needs and, importantly, introducing Manyi and some family members to Farming God's Way. Through Carlee, we became connected with trainer Chris Sperring in Canada, and began learning a different way of looking at the land one that values soil, food, stewardship and sustainability.

What began as something we were learning for ourselves gradually became part of our wider vision. Today, we continue to embrace the principles we learned and share what we are learning with the communities we serve, believing that the land can help provide food, dignity and a more sustainable future.

In 2018, another beautiful connection came into our journey when Paul Kemp, through Carlee, introduced Manyi to The Urantia Book. What began as a personal spiritual discovery gradually became a source of friendship, reflection and connection that has reached far beyond one individual.

Over time, these teachings have helped us explore deeper ideas of spiritual brotherhood, service, the Father within, human dignity and our responsibility to one another. Through the people we have met and the relationships that have grown from this connection, our understanding of service has continued to develop. It has reminded us that our work is not only about meeting physical needs, but also about nurturing the inner life, hope and spiritual potential of the people we walk with.

As the years passed, more people became part of the journey. Carolyn Bonfield joined us in supporting the struggles we were facing, remarkably standing with us in areas including education and farming projects. Her continued support has helped us keep moving forward through different seasons of our work.

Later, Lindianne and Arthur Sappington from Oregon became part of our growing circle of brotherhood. Through this connection, we embraced the Food Forest approach as another pathway toward sustainability. It strengthened our vision of developing land that can provide food, restore the soil, support biodiversity and continue giving to communities for generations.

Then came another meaningful connection through Robine Lieske and Working Angels. Through this partnership, we began supporting children through weekly reflections, creating space for them to think, express themselves, discover their own value, develop self-awareness and explore their relationship with the Father within. What began as weekly moments of reflection has become a beautiful part of our work with children helping them find their voices, build confidence and understand that their inner lives matter.

As these relationships grew, so did our understanding of the challenges around us.

We began to see that many of the difficulties affecting vulnerable families were connected. Children were struggling because their families were struggling. Families were struggling because they had limited opportunities, poor access to basic services, food insecurity and few sustainable ways of meeting their needs. We therefore began looking beyond immediate assistance toward approaches that could help communities become stronger and more self-reliant.so many friends ,brothers and sisters have walked wth us along the journey martha, laura, and annonymous generous supporters.

Our work gradually expanded to include child welfare and support, community outreach, sustainable farming, food security, family support, spiritual fellowship and community development.

In our rural communities, farming is more than an economic activity it is closely connected to food, family survival and dignity. This led us to begin developing our own agricultural work, learning and practicing more sustainable approaches to farming while encouraging families to see the land as a resource that can help sustain future generations.

In 2024, after years of saving and fundraising, we acquired land in Bukoyo Village, Bulamagi Sub-county, Iganga District, where we began developing a home and community-based space for our work. The journey has not been easy. Development has happened gradually, often one step at a time, through local contributions, personal sacrifice, donations and the support of friends and brothers and sisters who believe in the vision.

Today, Savannah Rose Rescue is a registered Community-Based Organisation (CBO) working primarily with vulnerable communities in and around Bukoyo Village, Iganga District, Eastern Uganda. Our commitment is to walk alongside children, families and communities facing vulnerability not simply to provide temporary relief, but to nurture dignity, hope, skills, opportunity and sustainable solutions.

Our work continues to grow through partnerships, community participation and learning. We are developing our land into a place where child support, sustainable agriculture, food security, community learning, spiritual fellowship and practical service can come together.

  • WHAT MAKES US DIFFERENT

    The Brotherhood That Connects Us:

Looking back, we realise that our journey has never been carried by one person or one organisation.

Since the beginning, brotherhood has connected us and kept us going.

From Carlee and the first lessons in Farming God's Way, to Chris Sperring and the farming connection; from Paul Kemp and the introduction to The Urantia Book; to Carolyn's continued support for education and farming; from Lindianne and Arthur and the Food Forest vision; to Robine and Working Angels and the weekly reflections with children—each relationship has become part of our story.

These connections have taught us that meaningful change does not always begin with having more resources. Sometimes it begins with one person reaching out to another, one idea being shared, one friendship being formed, or one brother or sister choosing to walk alongside us.
